Church school at PHPC seeks to ground our children and youth in a firm biblical foundation and build relationships between one another and God:
Infants and toddler care (Room A114, downstairs): A nursery for infants and toddlers during worship and Church School.
Preschool (Room B104, downstairs): For children who are 2, 3, and 4 years old by September 1, 2016. These youngest children will learn about God’s love through the stories of the Bible. Come and enjoy the fun of exploring through art activities, games and drama.
Elementary School (B107, downstairs): For students in grades K-5. Elementary children enjoy a style of church school called Workshop Rotation, which means they rotate weekly through specific workshops that provide a different focus and way of learning about the Bible story.
Children at PHPC are also regularly engaged in mission opportunities. Students regularly attend the “Mission” class of our workshop rotation curriculum where they learn about God’s calling for them to be good neighbors, and practice this calling through various projects. By saving coins for the “One Great Hour of Sharing” offering during Lent, helping with canned food drives, and participating in special projects during Vacation Bible School, children experience a variety of practices. In the summer, there are also special opportunities for God’s children of all ages to come together for inter-generational mission events.
“Our Whole Lives: Sexuality and Our Faith”: A faith based, age-appropriate sexuality series for 5th graders. Traditionally offered in the spring on Sunday evenings, this series is facilitated by two church members who have been certified and trained to teach this curriculum. This series is designed to help children gain knowledge, principles, and healthy practices in expressing their sexuality as well as learn to connect their values to their faith. Contact the associate pastor of Christian Education to learn more.
Middle School (Room B205, upstairs): For 6th-7th Grades. These students will spend the year exploring the Bible through video, journal writing, discussion and hands-on activities.
Confirmation (B206, upstairs): For 8th Grade. These students journey together through the confirmation process of becoming members of the church. They learn to articulate and define their faith, visit congregations of other faith traditions, build community with peers and adult mentors and ask the big questions about God.
High School (Room B203, upstairs): For 8th-12th Grades. These students discuss the intersections between their faith and current events. Each week, they learn and reflect on a recent event, find connections with the lectionary scripture text and respond through discussion and activities.
