Rev. Katie Day

Message from Katie

“Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8

1 Thessalonians 2:8 is my favorite descriptor of ministry. I believe that being Church is sharing not only the gospel but our lives – doing life together, in community. I am joyfully looking forward to sharing my life and my family with you as we respond to God’s call together. Answering this call brings me such great joy. It’s thrilling (and also a teeny bit terrifying). But, no anticipation can top the reality of what comes next – what we will actually do and experience and share over the next months and years. I am delighted to bear witness to what God is doing in and through your congregation. I am in awe of the privilege of being invited into your lives, your joys and sorrows, your births and deaths, and your hopes and dreams for the future. I am ready to seek justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly alongside you as you live out your faith in your daily lives, neighborhoods, and communities.

– The Rev. Katie Day

The Reverend Katie Day’s first day to preach will be May 3!

The Rev. Katie Day’s Statement of Faith

Katie is deeply rooted in Reformed Theology, as expressed in her Statement of Faith:

“I believe in God: one loving, sovereign God, communal in triune essence, creator of the world and creating still today, incarnate and definitively self-revealed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, calling the church into being and empowering it to act.

I believe Jesus Christ, through his life, death, and resurrection, conquered sin and death, reconciles the world to God, and frees us for abundant life.

I believe the Holy Spirit calls all creatures to participate in God’s life and work in the world, and guides generative and healing practices.

I believe that the world is beautiful but broken, and that the only redemption from this brokenness comes from God’s abundant grace, freely offered in love.

I believe that we are called to live together in the midst of our brokenness and claim the reality of God’s transforming and extravagant love through loving God, loving each other, working for justice and peace, and spreading the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Katie’s Background

A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Katie’s call to ministry began while attending Furman, when she accidently accepted a part-time youth director position at a tiny church filled with punk rock teenagers and loved every minute. She pursued acting for a few years but soon felt a renewed call to ministry and accepted a position working as interim Christian Educator in Charleston, SC. It was there she began to feel a call to attend seminary and decided on Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. While in seminary, her three years as Youth Intern at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church were among the most formative of her life and helped her discern a call to ordained pastoral ministry.

Katie’s preaching talents have been recognized by invitations to guest preach at numerous occasions including Montreat Youth Conference, Stated Meetings of the Presbyteries of San Jose and St. Augustine, and also Presbyterian churches in Jacksonville, FL, Monterey, CA, and Walterboro, SC.

Katie, Kevin, & Elijah Day

In addition to receiving a degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, Katie met and fell in love with Kevin Day, and they married shortly after graduation. Kevin is an ordained Presbyterian minister, and currently teaches social studies and serves as Curator for Spiritual Life at All Saints Episcopal Day School in Carmel Valley, CA.

Elijah, their son, is every bit of two and a half. He loves music, school, and playing outside. Their open adoption means they are in relationship with Elijah’s birth family, and they cherish visits and FaceTime calls with his birth mother (“Momma Bear”) and two siblings.

In her spare time, Katie has enjoyed the gift of performing in local community and professional theaters, though the future will find her in the audience more often than on stage. Supporting the arts and nurturing a love of theater, music, and dance in Elijah is a priority for the Days. They also love the outdoors with frequent camping and hiking trips to Big Sur and Yosemite. To unwind, Katie enjoys losing herself in a good book or a captivating TV show while enjoying a glass of wine, a gin and tonic, or a peppermint tea.
